Meet The IOCP New Diabetes Representative

Adele is the director/proprietor of her Accredited private practice, Cockermouth Chiropody/Podiatry Ltd. This practice was set up from scratch in 2012 when she relocated to NW Cumbria from the Wirral. The practice is now full time with three associates and 2 employed staff. Adele is hoping to open another practice soon in NW Cumbria to meet the demands for quality foot and lower limb care/treatment in the area.

Adele qualified from Huddersfield School of Chiropody/Podiatry in 1989 being presented with an award for her final year dissertation in “Diabetic Foot Complications and Treatments – Choice of Dressings for Diabetic Foot Ulcers”. After qualifying Adele worked in Chester and Huddersfield Health Authority before becoming consultant diabetic specialist podiatrist in Wirral. She also practiced Podiatry overseas, including Kenya and a leper colony in Calcutta, India. She worked exclusively in the specialist area of diabetes for 25 years, as well as running a successful 6 room practice in Birkenhead for 12 years before selling that and relocating to Cumbria for a “quieter” life. Adele was instrumental in setting up the multidisciplinary diabetic foot clinic at Wirral Hospital Trust. She is registered with the Health Care Professions Council and is a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. Adele is Chairman of the newly revived Cumbria Branch of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. Adele has lectured nationally in podiatry, especially in the management and treatment of diabetic foot complications. She has contributed significantly to the development of the NHS foot care standards and she pioneered in the development of new dressings, treatments and techniques still being used today in high risk diabetic footcare.

Adele is married to Charles (aka “Fred”) and has 2 daughters Freya (16) and Gaia (15). Both her daughters are now showing an interest in following in mums footsteps and are keen to pursue a career in Podiatry. Unfortunately, her daughters have never shown an interest in Adele’s other passion; horses and animals. Adele owns a horse, Ozzy, 2 ducks and has sadly just lost her beloved Labrador Milo. Ozzy is 26 years old and 17.3 hands high, he takes up most of Adele’s spare time outside her family and busy practice.

Adele recently joined the Institute of Chiropodists and Podiatrists following completion of the Steroid Injection in Podiatry course. She has been so impressed with the warm welcome she has received and the level of support on offer. Adele is very keen to complete the other amazing advanced Podiatry courses on offer with the Institute of Chiropodists and Podiatrists and to be able to develop new skills which will benefit her patients.

Adele offered to volunteer to be the Diabetes Representative for the Institute of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. She is looking forward to meeting many of you at the 2018 Conference and is keen to listen and learn about all your experiences or views in all Diabetic Footcare.
