Introduction to the treatment?

Phlebotomy – the drawing of Blood has been practised for centuries and is still one of the most common invasive procedure in health care. WHO World Health Organisation (2010) guidelines on drawing blood states the best practices in phlebotomy include groups of health workers who historically are not formally trained in phlebotomy should be encouraged to take up such training, as lax infection prevention and control practices result in poor safety for staff and pose risk to patients.

 

What the course will involve?

Podiatrists will be utilising and enhancing the skills they already have to deliver different treatment options to the benefit of their patient’s, The Key Features of this course will include observation (Dry Labs). Most importantly Live practical Blood sessions, the course format will also include an Overview of Phlebotomy, Best Practices in Phlebotomy, Anatomy and physiology, How Phlebotomy is performed, Vacuum Blood Collection, Tube Additives, Order of Draw, Private Blood Tests used in Phlebotomy, Phlebotomy Tools, Techniques, Equipment, Glossary of Phlebotomy Terminology, Health & safety guidelines, and Continued Professional Development (CPD).

 

The course will allow delegates to add this modality to their level four professional indemnity insurance provided by the Institute.

Lynnette Nisbet, BSc PodM, MChS, D.C.M.T

Lynette has a SCQF Level 7 (Chemistry, Microbiology, biological molecules, Genetics, Cell biology, Enzymes & Metabolism, integrated human body, SCQF (Merit) Pathobiology. Directing and supervising trainees/students.  BSc Podiatry since 2009, Silicone Injection Therapy 2010 EliteCe Ltd. Applied Homotoxicology 2012, International Academy for Homotoxicology. Certificate in Advanced injection techniques in podiatry. Trained Phlebotomist since 2012, by Phlebotomy Training Services, Plasma rich platelet (PRP) training course 2012, Harley Street Skin Clinic. Steroid Injection Therapy 2017, IOCP. Platelet rich Plasma injection 2018, IOCP.

She has been a qualified HCPC registered podiatrist since 2009 and a qualified phlebotomist since 2012.

Martin Harvey, PGCert, BSc, MInstChP, MCPodS

Martin has been at the forefront of developing soft tissue injection therapy in Podiatry for more than a decade and also trained in blood-drawing some ten years ago. He regularly uses and teaches the use of injection therapies such as glucose and lidocaine prolotherapy, articular viscosupplements, tissue augmentation with dermal filling agents, platelet rich plasma and botulinum toxins.

He was closely involved in developing independent prescribing for podiatrists and physiotherapists, working with the Department of Health and the National Prescribing centre, and is currently a member of the chief professions officers working party on extending controlled drugs in podiatry.

This course is held at The Wiggin training centre at Sir Robert Peel Hospital, Mile Oak, Tamworth B78 3NG.

There is on-site parking available (car park charges apply) and the Hospital is very conveniently located some 3 minutes journey from Junction 10 of the M42 motorway via the A5 bypass, making it an easily accessible location from the M6, M5, A5 as well as Tamworth mainline railway station and Birmingham international airport. Packed lunches can be pre-arranged at extra charge onsite (vegetarian options if required).
