Course aims: To provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively treat ingrown toenails without the need for surgical intervention.

As part of the training course attendees will be taught to confidently practice the conservative nail edge removal technique. This techniques involves removal of a thin edge of nail to provide immediate relief, generally performed without Anaesthetic.

The course will cover but is not limited to:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the toenail and surrounding tissue
  • Causes and symptoms of ingrown toenails
  • Non-surgical treatment options for ingrown toenails, including lifting, and filing techniques
  • Instrumentation, dressings, medications
  • Techniques for the correct nail cutting practice and maintenance
  • Prevention strategies to avoid ingrown, and future ingrown, toenails
  • Patient assessment and consultation skills
  • Infection control and safety procedures

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to effectively diagnose and treat ingrown toenails using non-surgical techniques and provide their patients with guidance on how to prevent future occurrences. Additionally, participants should have a solid understanding of infection control procedures and patient safety protocols to ensure the health and well-being of their patients.
